It’s amazing how a little bit of sunshine can change your mood. I know I’ve got a little giddy last week, making the most of beer gardens and drinking outside in the sun. It also felt amazing going from winter coats to summer clothes in a matter of days. I even contemplated booking a mini trip to Ibiza after a few drinks. I mean I should really be spending money on furniture and not planning holidays. This is what the sun does to me!

As well as taking in all the sunshine last week, I was kindly invited by John Lewis to hangout at their pop up poolside installation. They have taken a corner of their 3rd floor flagship store and turned it into an LA-inspired summer hangout spot. With a realistic ‘poolside’ look full of floating pineapples and sparkly unicorn inflatables. They had full length mirrors which were perfect for taking selfies with all the inflatables. All this really didn’t help with my urge to book a holiday, I’m even more determined to go away, just so I can take one of these inflatables with me!

Some lovely summer pieces ...

They have also cherry picked some of there spring summer clothing to feature in their poolside pop-up. I’ve picked out some of the clothing items which I loved and you can shop straight away.

If you are in need of some summer inspiration or some poolside glamour, then I would recommend heading to the 3rd floor of John Lewis. They have lots of home, holiday, beauty and clothing inspiration. I’m already using the Vita Liberata luxury tan to give myself that holiday glow. The Poolside installation is open now until 12th May.

Hey guys and Merry Christmas, I hope you are having a lovely holiday so far. I know I am enjoying relaxing and eating as much cheese as humanly possible, I think I've had over 10 cheese boards in the space of 5 days! As well as all the eating, I have done a bit of sale shopping from the comfort of my sofa. I did attempt the shops yesterday and failed massively. It's far too busy and messy in the stores so I headed home to carry on online sale shopping.

Here I have put together some of my top items to invest in when it's sale time. These are the things I normally look for when there is a sale as it means I can either stock up or invest big while still getting a bargain with my Christmas money.

Well, this piece of clothing is nothing new. If you have ever come across my blog before or visited my Instagram page you will know I looove denim. So when the sales hit my first stop for jeans is Topshop. They are my number store when recommending them to anyone wanting jeans. And in the sale, these styles I have picked out are an absolute steal at £22 each! Of course with any sale the popular styles sell out fast but these styles seem to be still on the website.

I am an absolute sucker for a grey marl jumper. It is up there as one of my top 5 basic items everyone should own and if you invest in a good quality piece it can last you years. The store I am also drawn to for plain coloured clothing is Cos and they also have some amazing sale deals. These jumpers I have picked out still come up to £50 but I believe they are a great layering piece for keeping you warm.

Every year without fail I check out which ankle boots go on sale. This season I have had a thing for suede boots, including purchasing the khaki ruffle ones at full price, but now they are on sale for more than half the price. If you have had your eye on a pair of boots, it's always worth watching and waiting to see if they go into the sale. Essepecilaly when you know you have enough shoes but can justify buying a bargain like these above.

Designer Handbag

These sales are a great time to purchase a designer handbag. Normally I would recommend going into store if you are spending a fair amount on a bag, but if you feel confident shopping online these sales are the perfect time to save on designer purchases. Here I've picked out an old favourite brand Marni as I know this brand also has great quality bags and comparing the original price to the sale one you know you are making a saving.

As I get older I'm finding myself more interested in interior pieces for my home. Bedding is one of those items I actually really enjoy shopping for. The covers that I love to interest can be very expensive but on sale, they are a lot more affordable. Stores like John Lewis, Made.com and The White Company always have amazing savings.

Like I mentioned before my love for the interior is forever growing. So taking inspiration from my Pinterest boards I have found four beautiful pieces that I would love to see in my home. I have been lusting over a pink velvet chair for over a year now, so a sale is a perfect time to invest in a piece like this chair. At the moment I am loving dark wood furniture against white walls so I've picked out these two contrasting items from French Connection.

These have been my top sale items I have searched for in this year's boxing day sales. I would love to know your thoughts on any of these pieces or what you have been lusting over in the sales?

Anyone who knows me well enough knows how bad my time keeping is. It really annoys my boyfriend as he hates being late for things and that then stresses me out! Anyway, this is the latest I've ever posted my monthly lusting, but I actually felt lost at what to lust about this month as we are in that transitional period of fashion, where you don't know whether to wear a coat or put a lovely dress on and the sales have dominated the shops this month. So I thought I would go straight into my first autumn winter hit list, starting with the below 4 items.

dark denim jeans, indigo jeans, august inspiration, northern magpie

Like I said before we are in a transnational period with weather and fashion, so you need that light weight jacket for when it gets a little chilly in the evenings. Here I have picked out four styles that could suit any occasion, one for a casual day look with the striped jacket, and another for more of a special occasion with the bright red statement piece. The piece that I am lusting over the most by far is this checked long duster coat by Topshop Boutique. It is all kinds of wonderful!

black ankle boots, august inspiration, northern magpie, jeans

Last but by no means least is the printed midi and maxi dresses. These have been on my radar for a while but it's finding the right style for my shape. Here I've picked four styles that I feel you can wear so many different ways. You know I like to make the most of my items of clothing and that includes dresses. You should be able to wear any of these pieces on their own, with jeans or as a layering piece.

Of course, I had to feature a pair of jeans! I love denim and this season I want to change up from my usual taste and add in new styles, starting with indigo denim. Not only am I loving the colour, but I really like the stiff traditional work wear fabric of the jeans. These were fashionable in the 50's and early 00's, with added features such as the contrast white stitching making them a statement pair of jeans.

shot from the street, august inspiration, northern magpie, topshop long coat

After spending the last four months in sandals and mules I am ready for ankle boots! I am so excited to see what the high street has on offer for this next season. Here I have picked out four that I have spied so far, two high street and two brands. Zara and Topshop are two of my favourite places to shop for quality and affordable ankle boots. I am loving these mustard coloured suede boots and can see them being worn all through the winter with different looks. I encourage you to embrace the weird colours for winter!

maxi dress, patterned dress, printed maxi dress, northern magpie

Okay, so this is my first autumn winter hit list of items I am keeping my eye out for. I would love to know your thoughts and if you like any of the pieces. Have you started to think about the next season? If you guys have any ideas on what to feature for my next inspiration list, please let me know in the comments below.

farfetch, one-piece swimsuit, jess dempsey, northern magpie, joey taylor

The one-piece swimsuit has fast become an essential piece for holidays, no longer reversed for your mum or grandma. It's a piece I've shied away from until now as I always thought they looked the best on tall girls and not on smaller girls like myself. But if you use a few tricks to make sure you buy the right one-piece swimsuit, you can make this swimwear work for you. For short girls it's all in the leg, take inspiration from Kylie Jenner and make sure your swimsuit is a high leg over the hips if you dare! Next is the colour or print, if you are conscious of your middle, try a bold print or play it safe and wear a black swimsuit. If you are feeling brave just go for a plain coloured piece and make it work with sandals and a large straw hat.

Being inspired by Farfetch Style Guide blog post with Jess Dempsey about how she makes swimsuits work for her I have put together three different looks that can work for anyone!

one-piece swimsuit, northern magpie, joey taylor

This look is effortless pool side glamour, no wedges in sight! Instead, a clean crisp white swimsuit with a high leg that will elongate your figure and on point tie details at the straps. For a touch of elegance, I've added in the simple gold necklace and then for contrast I would wear these seventies inspired sunglasses. To tie this look together as you hide from the sun and eat lunch you can wear this long light weight striped shirt.

This look above is pure beach inspired, for anyone heading off to Ibiza. Another high leg swimsuit, but this one is in a beautiful burnt orange/pink colour. A great piece for when you have a deep tan by the fourth day of your holiday. I've teamed this one-piece with a large straw hat, a soft pink beach bag to contrast the swimsuit and these white sturdy Marni sandals, just in case you fancy a day time rave!

The third and final look is a dusk to evening party look. Taking this one-piece swimsuit in a lovely navy colourway and teaming it with a pair of high-waisted stripe trousers. To give a contrast to this look I have placed these pink velvet heels and a simple black clutch to finish this whole look off. The dyed to match applique detail at the straps make it the perfect piece to dress up.

Which look do you prefer? and is the one-piece swimsuit made it into your wardrobe?
