May has certainly been a bit of an up and down month for me. I’ve had a slow month in terms of design work and trying to find more work so I’ve thrown myself into blogging again. I have fallen back in love with my blog again. For while I was focusing a lot of my time and effort on Instagram, which is fine as it is where I have the most followers but I get so much more out writing and editing my blog layout, generally being more creative on here. So expect more blog posts coming your way as the ideas are flowing. The first one is a look back at my favourites from May and to all the things I enjoyed, loved and would highly recommend.
Health & Fitness
Starting with a big one for me and that’s going back to CrossFit after a little break. After my CrossFit competition in April I ended up hurting my back and had to take some time off and rest up. This actually made me realise how much I love it and need to workout, not only for physical but also for my mental health. CrossFit has become such a big part of my daily routine and is a great way for me to start the day right with a sweaty workout!
This leads me nicely onto CBD oil and how I have been taking this to aid with my recovery process after a workout. Taking small amounts in the morning and a little drop before bed to help me sleep better. It’s also helping with any anxiety and stress I have over work. It has also been helping me sleep so much better at night. I just take 2-3 drops under my tongue, hold it there for 30 seconds and then take a drink of water or coffee if it’s in a morning. I use Greenlife CBD in the flavour peppermint, which is very refreshing! Some people might say it has a placebo effect but after not taking any for over a week I started to really overthink things, getting myself super stressed out about work and then eventually breaking down! As soon as that happened, Joe being a good egg cuddled me and told me to start taking it again. I noticed a big difference within a few days again. So I can hand on heart say this stuff works. A few weeks ago Manchester hosted it annual city run where people could run either the half marathon or the 10k. Joe decided he wanted to challenge himself and run the half. He completed it in 1 hour 43 minutes and I am super proud of him!! After taking the time to run long distances and preparing himself for this 13 mile he honestly smashed it and I couldn’t be more proud of him. As well as that I felt super proud to be part of the whole day myself and stand with complete strangers and cheer the runners on. On days like this it makes me so happy we decided to come back to Manchester and settle in this city. For anyone thinking why didn’t I run it, it’s just not for me right now. I want focus on my CrossFit, improve on that and then maybe do another competition later on in the year.
Like I said before I am enjoying putting more energy into my blog, unlike how you can feel like a slave to your Instagram feed. Don’t get me wrong I love creating content but there is something more special about curating a blog post. Putting more effort into something I have full control over. So you will see two posts a week from me on here AND more content creation with a photographer Scarlett. Over the past two months I have been working with her to create some very cool content. These shoots here from this post show how she is able to capture my look but also the beautiful background. I have so many more ideas coming to you that excites me for my blog.
As much as I don’t like to admit it but I am a slave to the old Instagram feed, planning or organising and posting each day. I have lost a little a little bit of enthusiasm for the feed so instead starting to create a new video series for IGTV. The changing room diaries is a series is as what it says on the tin. I have been going round different stores filming new season styles and I’ve had such a great respond so far. I have another one coming this week so please let me know your thoughts and any other shops you would like to see.
It’s finally festival season, yasssss! I absolutely love this time of year, the music, the fashion and the whole atmosphere of going to a festival. And after going to none last year, I am ready for the three I have a planned this season. Starting with Neighbourhood Weekender in Warrington last bank holiday. We only ended up going on the Sunday as we went ‘tup north to see Joes dad for his 60th birthday. It was just the two of us that ended going to Neighbourhood, so nice and chilled watching Gerry Cinnamon, The Vaccines, Richard Ashcroft and an old favourite The Futureheads. Proper getting me in the mood for Glastonbury now!
Ok so know how much some people love to read, instead I love a good binge watch of telly and Netflix. And have I binged this last month, so here’s my top favourites for May. The first has to be Game Of Thrones. This final season wasn’t the best, you can really tell this didn’t have a book behind the thought process of the story. But we all knew it had to end, just disappointed with the death of Mother of Dragons. In stark contrast I also watched the film Crazy Rich Asians, after listening to the book. I loved how crazy and over the top each character was, making the film fun and very much a chic flick. It’s not for everyone, but I am a sucker for a cheesy film.
Moving onto a series that is a mix bag of an emotional rollercoaster, Dead To Me. This is again another girly watch and I would recommend it to any of my girlfriends. It goes into how people deal differently with death with a funny and dark twist, as you would expect from a Will Ferrell production. A very easy watch and I binge the whole first season over two days.
My number one watch, which is not easy viewing is Chernobyl. This series is chilling to the bone as it is based on the real life events. One that happened thirty years ago, which is mad to think it happened in my lifetime. The first episode is just a small taster into what unfolds for the rest of the series, so bare with the slow pace. Afterwards, it becomes really hard viewing and very eerie to watch. But a life event we should all educate ourselves about.
My final telly watch is a light hearted program called Street Food on Netflix. Each episode visits a different country and interviews street food vendors about how their food became so infamous. I saved this program purely because of the Japanese episode as I wanted to see what street food we should visit when we go in September. Lots of Takoyaki (Octopus balls) and okonomiyaki (savour pancakes). Plus a look the famous street food chef Toyo who puts a show for all his customers who come for his ‘Izakaya’ (after work food and drinks). Worth a watch just for that guys sense of humour and story. I almost feel like this section needs a whole blog post just dedicated to Telly Talk.
Finally clothes.. this month I have rediscovered my love for ASOS in particular ASOS white for the mid range pricing and designer look. I could have picked out so much more stuff from their spring summer range, but I opted for a fitted skater style dress, link here to the dress. I have had so many lovely comments on this dress. Another good purchase this month, was my chunky sandals from Stradivarius. As a pairing the check dress and sandals go well together, but I’ve also found this pair goes with pretty much everything else in my wardrobe. Very good purchase.
A great gift which I was kindly sent by Scotch and Soda was this green mac, that again has seemed to fit with loads of outfits within my wardrobe. And did I mention I’m off to Glastonbury and this rain mac will be perfect for that. As well as the Mac they sent me these side stripe trousers I have on here, which I have found very versatile. I do feel like sporty spice in this look, paying homage to the all times I played Mel C in school talent shows.
